psd05hp_prThe PSDxxHP series of transient voltage suppressors (TVS arrays) from ProTek Devices have an updated data sheet. The 1000 watt (peak pulse power per line [tp = 8/20 micro seconds]) series includes three devices: the PSD05HP, PSD10HP, and PSD12HP. The components have rated stand-off voltages of 5.0, 10.0, and 12.0 volts, respectively. They provide transient voltage suppression / circuit protection for one power line. Ideal applications include battery chargers / battery packs, wireless telecommunications devices, smartphones, and other portable electronics. For battery applications, the TVS arrays protect sensitive electronics from switching transients across the AC line. The circuit protection devices also deliver protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical over-stress (EOS). The PSDxxHP series, in conjunction with passive components integrated into a TVS / filter network, can be used for electromagnetic interference / radio frequency interference (EMI / RFI) protection.

The PSDxxHP series is compatible with IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD): air – 15kV, contact – 8kV, with IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A – 5/50ns, and with IEC 61000-4-5 (surge): 45A, 8/20 micro seconds. The series features unidirectional configuration and also serves as an ideal replacement for multi-layer varistors (MLV) (0805). The parts also have a low clamping voltage and are RoHS and REACH compliant. The operating and storage temperature range is -55 to 150 degrees Celsius.

The components from the series come in a molded JEDEC SOD-323 package, which saves space on the printed circuit board. They have an approximate weight of only five milligrams. Other key mechanical characteristics include lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature of (pure-tin – Sn, 100) 260 to 270 degrees Celsius.
