ProTek Devices Unveiled Numerous Circuit Protection Solutions in 2017 to Protect Countless Electronics Applications

Happy New Year! Throughout 2017, we introduced many new circuit protection components for a variety of applications. The applications covered the spectrum of electronics offered by leading manufacturers. They included networking and computing devices, automotive, portable electronics like smartphones, telecommunications equipment, and much more. Here’s a summary of the products.

PLR0502-6

In the first half of 2017, ProTek Devices introduced the PLR0502-6, an ultra-low capacitance (0.7pF typical) steering diode and TVS array combination component. It provides circuit protection in various consumer and networking applications, such as USB 1.0 to 3.1, HDMI 2.0 and 4K, DVI, IEEE 1394 FireWire, and Gigabit Ethernet. The device specifically targets protection against electrostatic discharges (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT) for interfaces, wireless bus applications and portable electronics. against the effects of ESD and EFT. PAM28DOACxxCA

Also during the first half of 2017, we made available several more of circuit protection TVS components certified by the AEC for use in a variety of high-stress automotive applications. This includes systems such as braking and drive authorization to more advanced systems such as GPS navigation or park assist. The components include the family of PAM28DOACxxCA 400 watt TVS components and the PAM29DOAAxxCA series of 600 watt TVS components. Both series are glass-passivated chips boasting low leakage current, bidirectional configuration and exceptional clamping capability. They also have a very fast response time and are RoHS and REACH compliant. Read more.

PLR2210

We then introduced an ultra-low capacitance transient voltage suppressor array for electrostatic discharge circuit protection in ethernet ports, AV inputs and a variety of other high-speed data interfaces. The PLR2210 is ideal for use in servers, desktops and laptop computers as well as smartphones, switching systems, and more. It has a typical capacitance of 0.6pF at 2.5 volts. Each I/O pin can withstand more than 1,000 ESD strikes for ±8kV contact discharge. The PLR2210 has low leakage current and a low operating and clamping voltage. PLR0502-6

Moving into the second half of the year, we introduced a steering diode / TVS array designed for ESD circuit protection in various popular high-speed interfaces. Such interfaces include USB, DVI and HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, IEEE 1394 FireWire, and SATA and PCIe. This combo steering diode TVS array is the PLR0502-6, which has an ultra-low capacitance of 0.7pF typical (max I/O to I/O). The component has a low clamping voltage and low leakage current. It provides unidirectional configuration and protects two I/O ports and a power supply. The PLR0502-6 is also RoHS and REACH compliant. Read more.

PLR0506LP

Next up was the PLR0506LP, also an ultra-low capacitance – 0.4pF typical (I/O to I/O) – combo steering diode TVS array.  It meets various IEC standards requirements, such as 61000-4-2 (ESD): air – 15kV, contact – 8kV; 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A – 5/50ns; and 61000-4-5 (lightning): 4A – 8/20 micro seconds. It provides ESD protection of > 25 kilovolts.  The PLR0506LP is RoHS and REACH compliant. This device, in conjunction with passive components integrated into a TVS / filter network, can also be used for electromagnetic interference / radio frequency interference (EMI / RFI) protection. P6SMBxxxA/CA

Next up, we introduced a new series of TVS components with 600 watts peak pulse power per line to provide IEC-grade circuit protection in power supply, AC/DC, and telecommunications systems. The P6SMBxxxA/CA series offers reverse stand-off voltages ranging from 5.8 to 513 volts. There are 17 components in the P6SMBxxxA/CA series to cover the various voltage offerings. The TVS components allow bidirectional and unidirectional configuration options. They also provide low leakage current, a strong clamping capability, and a very fast response time. The series is also fully RoHS and REACH compliant and has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. Read more.

PLR05214LC

Then, in Q4 we introduced a new transient voltage suppressor array designed for circuit protection in various popular interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, wireless communications components, USB 3.0, HDMI 2.0, and the type-C connector. It protects against electrostatic discharges (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT). The PLR05214LC is an ultra-low capacitance (0.35pF) device that meets various IEC standards: 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT), and 61000-4-5 (surge). It protects four bidirectional data lines and provides an integrated solution at higher data transmission rates with a minimum insertion loss, while maintaining signal integrity. Read more.

PSRV-2LC

We then introduced a new series of low capacitance steering diode TVS arrays ideal for circuit protection in low voltage applications such as Ethernet 10/100/1000 Base T, USB, handheld electronics, video cards, and WAN/LAN equipment. The PSRV-2LC series is designed to protect two line pairs or four data/transmission lines. Circuit protection includes from the effects of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT). The series is offered in 3.3 and 5.0 rated standoff voltages. The 3.3 volt part provides low leakage current (1.0µA) and is less than 1.0 microampere.  The low capacitance of the steering diode allows the electronics engineer designer to protect high speed data applications.  Read more.

SMP6LLC15-2P

And finally, to close out the year in December, ProTek Devices added the SMP6LLC15-2P to its series of SMP6LLCxx-2P multi-line low-capacitance (5pF) TVS arrays that are suited for circuit protection in customer premise equipment (CPE), telecommunication equipment, and wireless communication equipment. The recently added part has a rated stand-off voltage of 15 volts.  Other voltages in the series are 5, 6.5, and 12 volts. The series is designed for board-level circuit protection for standard TTL and MOS bus line applications. This includes protection against damaging effects of ESD, tertiary lightning and switching transients. It offers electrical engineer designers bi-directional configuration and high-surge capabilities to protect two lines. Read more.
