ProTek Devices introduces the ultra low capacitance (0.3pF typical) super speed bus protection device This single-line bidirectional device is designed to protect USB 3.0 , HDMI 1.4 and eSATA interface applications. The PSSB05P can also be used for ESD protection for wired and wireless high speed data interfaces.
The PSSB05P is ideally suited for protecting indivudual lines and traces for USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4 interfaces . PCB traces are not constrained by the PSSB05P and signal lines can be routed in a manner that best suits the design. As a result of the small form factor and foot print (2 lead, DFN -MLP Package), the PSSB05P can be placed on the traces (See Figure 1).
This device meets the requirements of IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) and 61000-4-4 (EFT). For applications with higher operating frequencies or faster edge rates, insertion loss and signal integrity are a major concern. Figure 2 shows the Eye Diagram for the USB 3.0 Envelope for the PSSB05P. The PSSB05P in conjunction with passive components integrated into a TVS/filter network can be used for EMI/RFI protection. This device should be placed near a connector or a sensitive IC component.
